RNA IN SPERM: TOWARDS AN IDENTIFICATION OF RNAs TRANSMITTED FROM SPERM TO ZYGOTE ON FERTILIZATION
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION It is widely recognized that all that fathers essentially contribute to the next generation is half of their genome, and mature sperm cells are transcriptionally and translationally inactive. However, an increasing number of reports have shown that RNAs were present in human sperm detected by using RT-PCR, differential display, in situ hybridization and microarrays [1]. One study showed delivery of human RNAs from the sperm to the oocyte on fertilization using the hamster sperm penetration assay [2]. Intriguingly, recent evidence suggests that sperm RNA has the potential to influence phenotype through an epigenetic alteration to gene expression without affecting genotype [3]. Therefore, it is very tempting to identify transcripts in the sperm, which might have an important role in spermatogenesis and/or embryogenesis.

I-8: Role of Sperm Transcripts in Oocyte Activation, Fertilization and Development
It is well established that in addition to generating the diploid state in the zygote, the sperm also endows the oocyte with paternal centrioles, proteins and RNAs. Although the exact roles of mRNA introduced into the oocyte by the sperm are not completely understood. However, literature background, suggested that RNAs may have a vital role in embryo cleavage and further development. Therefore,...

Background: Digital image processing and analysis are used for computer assisted evaluation of sperm morphology. Sperm head morphology has been identified as a characteristic that can be used to predict a male’s semen quality. On the other hand, zygote competence analysis is an importance tool to select embryo(s) for transfer. The aim of the present study is to determine zygote quality resulted...

The nucleus of mature sperm contains a complex population of transcripts such as mRNAs and miRNAs which expressed and accumulated during process of spermatogenesis however in spermatozoa, transcription is inert. The spermatozoa do not have cytoplasmic ribosomal compounds and translation apparatus. However, spermatozoa can translate cytoplasmic mRNAs de novo, using mitochondrial poly...
متن کاملSperm-borne miRNAs and endo-siRNAs are important for fertilization and preimplantation embryonic development.
Although it is believed that mammalian sperm carry small noncoding RNAs (sncRNAs) into oocytes during fertilization, it remains unknown whether these sperm-borne sncRNAs truly have any function during fertilization and preimplantation embryonic development. Germline-specific Dicer and Drosha conditional knockout (cKO) mice produce gametes (i.e. sperm and oocytes) partially deficient in miRNAs a...
متن کامل1 . Fertilization
Fertilization is a cell-cell recognition process that occurs between two distinct cells: a small asymmetric and motile sperm cell and a large and nonmotile egg. The stages of fertilization can be divided into four processes: 1) sperm preparation, 2) sperm-egg recognition and binding, 3) sperm-egg fusion and 4) fusion of sperm and egg pronuclei and activation of the zygote. The specific structur...
